Preparing your dog for a session:

Don’t feed your dog for at least an hour and a half before a session.

Toilet your dog 5 to 10 minutes before a session is meant to start.

Have your dog’s harness on before we arrive.

If your dog is toy and/or treat motivated, have them handy. They may help if your dog is initially a little hesitant.

Please advise us if there are any special requirements/adjustments we need to know about before we arrive.

Our vans are at least 2.62 metres high so will not fit in most parking stations. So, if you reside in an apartment complex or your house/unit doesn’t have a flat driveway/parking surface, advise our trainers where best to park/set up before our arrival. This may be out on the street, down the road, around the corner or at the local park. For those in heavily built-up areas with limited on street parking, we’ve found Bunnings to be a safe alternative.

What to expect during a session:

If it is your dog’s first session, not much. The sights, sounds and smells of the van and the equipment can be overwhelming for some dogs. In our experience, 7 out of 10 dogs take a while to adjust. This is completely normal and is why we offer Introductory Sessions.

Once your dog is securely on the mill, we will release the brake and encourage them to take a few steps. Again, some dogs find this initially overwhelming and will dig their nails in, and in some cases, try and lay down. This is where toy or treat motivation can possibly assist them in overcoming their insecurities. An enthusiastic owner and trainer helps also.

When your dog is walk/pacing/running on the mill, continued encouragement and praise will keep them motivated.

Dogs will, for the most part, take to the mill and over time, their pace and endurance will improve.

What to expect after a session:

Each dog is different so you may notice;

Your dog is exactly as they were prior to the session. Some dogs take it in their stride.

Your dog is tired and goes to their bed. This is normal as they’ve just been mentally challenged and physically drained.

Your dog is excited and wanting to play. Your dog’s feel good hormones are racing through their body and they need a while to unwind.

Do’s and Don’ts after a session:

Do provide your dog with water but don’t let them drink too much. Offer it to them in small quantities over a 30 minute period.

Don’t feed your dog for at least an hour after a session.
